      <image:title>Will and Way - Research:</image:title>
      <image:caption>Studying the issues surrounding mental health and new parenthood revealed the disturbing fact that over half of women experience emotional problems postnatally or during pregnancy. A common trigger for mothers is the pressure to breastfeed, even when it is difficult and stressful to do so; whilst fathers encountering inflexible work hours, non-inclusive branding and a lack of trust can feel left out and forgotten.</image:caption>

      <image:title>Will and Way - Research and Process:</image:title>
      <image:caption>Extensive interviews with parents and medical professionals revealed a code of silence around admitting to mental health struggles, out of fear of being branded as, “unable to cope”. “Will and Way” could help couples support each other, as well as their new baby. An empathy tool, it enables dads to take a more active role in the first six months of the baby’s life and allows mums to relinquish some of the pressures and duties of parenting.</image:caption>

      <image:title>Togather - Platform:</image:title>
      <image:caption>The dual-platform (an app to act as portable journal, and a web-based platform to discover/exchange digitized brushes) is about converting physical, foraged mark-making materials into digital tools. With our platform a user can pick up a piece of driftwood on a beach, document it, document where they found it with a 60 second video and return it to it’s original spot. Digital media allows the user to take home (if they wish) a 3D model of the object along with the marks it can make as a digital brush.</image:caption>

      <image:title>Togather - UX and User Journeys:</image:title>
      <image:caption>We did not want the result of this project to be an increase in time spent online. To help us address this I created a range of user journeys and personas. I included a range of tech literacy and made sure to include users who had more interest in wildlife than in digital brushes. We therefore created a starter kit that contained no technology at all to help users gain confidence and explore.</image:caption>

      <image:title>Togather - Where We Are Going:</image:title>
      <image:caption>For those who want to make and create, we developed some further options. Using the Lidar scanner on a modern smartphone, the user could create a 3D mesh of an object. Through photogrammetry software such as Agisoft Metashape images could then be overlayed onto the mesh to produce a digital “twig” with a range of digital brushes available depending on how you “hold” it. <image:caption>We created a cardboard “mystery box” with value added through a digital element. It is versatile, scalable, can work for a wide variety of drinks. The recognisable boxes come in three colours. A yellow alcoholic box, a blue alcohol-free box and a green mixed box. Packaging is made to size and recyclable.</image:caption>

      <image:title>Tern - Research and Process:</image:title>
      <image:caption>I found a similarity between the range of physical ability in the group and digital ability. In the same way that my student Richard, (aged 74) enjoyed cycling in London, and Grace, (in her early 70’s) needed a frame to travel anywhere; some users had the latest smartphone while others relied on their partners to send emails and engage with technology. The key takeaway was that being above 70, did not mean being immobile or tech-illiterate.</image:caption>

      <image:title>Tern - How could I use digital technologies to cater to a range of physical abilities?</image:title>
      <image:caption>My result was an app prototype called Wazewalker using the live map technology of driving app, Waze. It provides advance information regarding common ‘nasty surprises’ feared by my users, such as poor lighting and congestion. The app also includes a short quiz where the user can enlarge their font sizes, alerts and whether they would like to be directed towards ramps rather than stairways.</image:caption>

      <image:title>Slimitiser - Research and Process:</image:title>
      <image:caption>After speaking to Aila, an 11-year-old slime expert and working in my “lab” (see above), I had two key insights: 1. Slime loses its stretch and becomes brittle once it has been played with for a while. 2. Alcohol prevents slime from forming in the first place if it is added too early. My solution came when I learnt that alcohol (particularly hand sanitiser) is also recommended as a way of revitalising tired slime. The result was my first concept: a polymer based slime, housed in a tub of hand sanitizer. This would keep it soft, forcing the user to manipulate it for one or two minutes before it became a stretchy toy. In the process, their hands would also be sanitised.</image:caption>
    </image:image>
    <image:image>
      <image:loc>https://images.squarespace-cdn.com/content/v1/60f6c1620ca53c740b029537/1628761780553-PH25KQJEB9AUTYAWDP1I/slimitiser+2.png</image:loc>
      <image:title>Slimitiser - Result:</image:title>
      <image:caption>My second concept rose from a discussion I had with Camilla, a 14 year old slime expert. I learnt that slime has to be “fed” with borax powder to continue being usable beyond two weeks. This reminded me of another retro toy, Sea Monkeys. Following a similar model, I included a packet of “slime food” (borax) and “slime drink” (hand sanitiser) along with the original tub of Slimitiser. If your “pet” slime is consistently fed with small amounts of hand sanitiser and borax, it can last for months. The point of it is to keep it alive, adding hand sanitiser and massaging it in until it’s a happy ball of sanitising slime, glitter optional.</image:caption>
